As winter has arrived here in the Seacoast Region, keeping an eye on how much heating oil or propane you have is essential.
That’s especially true if you use Will-Call for your fuel delivery. It is your responsibility to monitor how much heating oil or propane is in your tank. We recommend that you contact us to request a delivery when your tank is about 30% full.
But sometimes, life gets in the way. You get busy. You forget to check your tank gauge levels. And you end up running out of fuel.
That’s why we recommend Automatic Delivery for our customers. But if you’re still using Will-Call, here’s what you need to know about fuel runouts.
Whether you use heating oil or propane, the first thing to do if you’ve run out of fuel is contact P. Gagnon & Son immediately. DO NOT email us or contact us online. Call us directly at (207) 465-1982. We have people answering our phones 24/7, 365 days a year.
We’ll promptly get an emergency fuel delivery to you.
If you use heating oil, there’s more to getting your heat back on than refilling the heating oil tank. Sediment in the tank may have been sucked into your fuel lines and potentially reached your heating system’s oil filter. If the oil filter becomes clogged, your heating system could fail, so the filter needs to be changed to prevent that. You may need your fuel lines bled to remove any air.
If you use propane, an emergency propane delivery is just the beginning of what happens. You also must have your propane system thoroughly inspected by a professional service technician. That safety inspection includes a leak test, a pressure test, an inspection of your tank and propane appliances, and a professional re-lighting of all the propane appliance pilots.
The costs for both the emergency propane delivery and safety inspections are your responsibility to pay for.
