If you have recently moved into a home that uses heating oil, you may have a lot of questions.
P. Gagnon & Son is here to help! We’re your full-service heating oil company, with dependable heating oil delivery and oil-fired equipment service. We’ve answered some common questions so you can better get to know heating oil.
Heating oil is probably the most cost-effective energy source for home heating. First of all, today’s high-efficiency oil-fired heating systems are much more efficient than just a decade or so ago, reaching efficiencies over 95%. Second, heating oil gets your home warm faster than any other energy source.
Yes! Heating oil must be heated to 140°F in order to be vaporized and combusted in your furnace or boiler. Also, today’s heating oil tanks have been improved with double-walled tanks to help prevent leaks along with built-in alarms that prevent overfilling. P. Gagnon & Son offers tank protection to help keep your oil tank even safer.
Today’s heating oil is exponentially cleaner than the heating oil of just a generation ago. First, all heating oil sold in Maine is ultra-low sulfur heating oil (ULSHO). P. Gagnon & Son goes the extra mile by delivering premium fuel that includes environmentally friendly biodiesels as well as UltraGuard, an additive that protects your heating oil tank and your heating system.
Getting heating oil delivery is a piece of cake when you enroll in Automatic Delivery! We use the latest software that accurately calculates when you’ll need more heating oil by factoring in your usage history and current weather conditions. We then schedule a delivery, so you have a full tank before you run low.
If you choose Will-Call for your heating oil delivery, you need to check your heating oil tank gauge frequently, so you know when to contact us to request a delivery. We strongly recommend that you do not let your tank gauge fall below 25% full before requesting a delivery. Here’s how to read your tank gauge.
On top of your heating oil tank, look for the transparent plastic tube with markings on it that resemble car fuel gauge numbers: F, ¾, ½, and so on. There is a red marker or a float inside the tube that informs you how much heating oil is in the tank.
Your home’s furnace or boiler needs regular, professional maintenance so it runs at its best possible efficiency.
