But before visions of service calls and repairs flood your mind and you call us, take a deep breath. By taking a few minutes to look closer and troubleshoot the problem, you may end up discovering there’s a simple fix that you may be able to do yourself, saving the time, trouble and expense of an unnecessary service call.
Troubleshooting tips before the call
We have put together a few tips for you on things you should look into before making a request for service.
- Check your fuel tank’s gauge levels. Have you run out of heating oil or propane? Get in touch with us and we’ll make an emergency delivery. And now would be a good time to sign up for automatic heating oil delivery or automatic propane delivery so this doesn’t happen again!
- Check the switches for your furnace or boiler. Are all the switches associated with your heating system set to “on” or “start?”
- Check the circuit box. The circuit breaker that controls your home’s heating system may have been tripped. If so, reset it and see if that works.
- Check your thermostat. The first thing to do is check the settings. Is it set to “heat” or “warm” as it should be? Second, check your temperature setting. Set it to five degrees warmer than the current room temperature and see what happens. If you have a forced-air heating system and the fan doesn’t turn on, the issue could be that your heating system burner is not igniting. That means you’ll need us to come by for a service call to make a repair.
- Check the reset button. Press the reset button on the burner ONLY ONCE. If the burner doesn’t kick on within 10 seconds, call us.
